The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Hot take: I did not like this book.

My parents have a big bookshelf in our guest room, and I took it upon me to read every book (disregarding textbooks), or attempt to, on that bookshelf. I dove into this novel, by Steig Larsson, with the expectation that it would be a great book that kept me on the edge of my seat. In contrast, I struggled to finish this novel. I expected this main character, Lisbeth Salander, to be a cool punk-rock chick, but she seemed pretty flat and her character did not really intrigue me. Also, the storyline just didn't keep me hooked at all. I literally had to force myself to finish it just to see what happens, and I didn't even feel satisfied with the end. It tries to have a gritty-edgy type feel, and the gruesome details did not land for me. I tried to watch the movie adaptation, and it did the same thing. This type of book is just not for me. I read many reviews trying to figure out if anyone felt the same way as me, and some people said the second book is better. Maybe I'll try it? We'll see.
